EU City Lab on Food #3
This City Lab is co-organised by EUI and URBACT and will take place from the morning of 23 October, until the afternoon of the following day.
Hosted in Milan, Italy, participants will be welcome from all over Europe.
EU city lab
The event will focus on ways of using land to meet urban needs for sustainable food. Through discussions and knowledge-sharing, thematic sessions and group activities, the event aims to explore how innovative land use strategies can support sustainable and resilient food systems in urban areas across Europe.
This City Lab is a unique opportunity to:

Find out how Milan succeeded in applying different land-use strategies to meet the needs of its citizens.

Discover the approaches experimented by other EU cities to foster sustainable land use practices as a leverage for sustainability in local food systems.

Visit sites in Milan and exchange with locals about citywide land use and food sustainability, citizen engagement actions and learning communities.

Improve your understanding of the EU landscape around local food systems

Bring back home inspiring lessons and concrete tools to spur transformation in your city
The event will gather city representatives and urban policy experts from across Europe working on the green transition of local food systems.
The Milan event is the third and last in a series of three EU City Labs on Local Food Systems:
- The EU City Lab #1 on Changing Habits for a Healthy and Sustainable Food System took place in Mouans-Sartoux, France, on 21-22 March 2024.
- The EU City Lab #2 on Public Procurement for More Local, Seasonal and Sustainable Food took place in Liège, Belgium, on 29-30 May 2024.
