How to deliver high quality Sustainable Urban Development - Capacity Building event in Sweden

By EUI Team
Are you a representative of a Swedish urban authority? Join us in Gothenburg for a capacity building event hosted by the European Urban Initiative! This event will focus on delivering high-quality sustainable urban development strategies and will feature speakers from across the EU who will showcase successful practices.

The event will focus on effective governance for the green transition, scaling-up and transferring innovations, and integrating multi-dimensional objectives. The program will feature plenary sessions, interactive workshops, site visits, and networking opportunities, all aimed at fostering collaboration among Swedish urban authorities and European experts.

The capacity-building event will provide participants with a wealth of practical knowledge, new perspectives, and collaborative skills that can be directly applied to their work in sustainable urban development.

The participants will take home:

  • Enhanced competencies in Sustainable Urban Development: learning how to facilitate coordination between different levels of government, how to achieve cross-sectoral integration with a limited number of policy objectives, and how to ensure continuous stakeholder engagement.
  • Inspiration and practical ideas: listening to international best practices on green transition, innovation and sustainable mobility will offer fresh ideas and innovative approaches.
  • Tools for conflict resolution and stakeholder engagement: the focus on governance means participants will gain insights into effectively managing diverse actors involved in sustainable urban development projects, ensuring clear roles and responsibilities. They’ll also explore conflict resolution, valuable for resolving any governance challenges that might arise during project implementation.
  • Strategies for scaling and transferring innovations: practical methods and how to build robust transfer mechanisms, making it easier to replicate successful projects across different settings or municipalities.
  • A broader perspective on sustainability: how to design projects that align environmental, social, and economic goals, fostering an inclusive and just green transition.
  • Peer support and networking: share challenges, brainstorm solutions, and create connections that will serve as resources for future initiatives.

This capacity-building event is organised in coordination with the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth (Tillvaxtverket), the Swedish National Board of Housing, Building and Planning (Boverket) and the European Commission.

This event was designed having in mind the Swedish context. We aim to bring together up to 80 participants. Priority in participation is granted, but not limited, to the representatives of the twelve local strategies eligible for Sweden's national Regional Fund allocation.

The event will be held in English.
