GfW - Ground for Wellbeing

Greening cities

Ongoing

Location

The project is set in Tuindorp Oostzaan (TO), in Amsterdam North. The site to be redesigned and upgraded is Plejadenplein, a central square surrounded by several community organisations including a church, school and community centre, so impacts are socially and spatially significant. Meteorenweg’s redesign is more complex: this central traffic artery can impact groundwater, flood resilience, ecological connections, sustainable energy and mobility, and spatial quality for the whole neighbourhood.

Urban authorities

The involvement of diverse municipal departments reflects the project’s unique combination of social and spatial design. Project management is shared between the city-wide Mobility and Public Space and Amsterdam’s North Borough, while Project Engineering is responsible for procurement and implementation. Public Health will research and consult on health and wellbeing. Amsterdam North’s local area team for Tuindorp Oostzaan coordinates with project partners on participation and communication with residents.

Transfer partners

Transfer Partners are urban authorities that join the EUI-Innovative Action project to observe and learn. Their primary aim is to enhance the adaptability of the project's solutions to different urban contexts within the EU. These partners play a crucial role in facilitating knowledge exchange among EU cities and fostering innovation. They come from different EU member states than the project Main Urban Authority and participate during the project's implementation phase. Each project generally involves three Transfer Partners. The involvement of Transfer Partners is vital for ensuring the project's innovative solutions are effectively adaptable and replicable in various contexts across the EU.
