Location

Kozani is a city in northern Greece, known historically for its role as a centre for coal mining and energy production. It hosts an annual Carnival, a culturally significant event with deep ties to local traditions. As part of Greece's transition away from coal, Kozani is moving towards a greener economy, fostering sustainability and innovation. The city is also home to the University of Western Macedonia, playing a key role in education and regional development.

Urban authorities

The Municipality of Kozani is leading the EcoZani project, collaborating with academia, industry & civil society to develop innovative solutions. The Municipality will transform Kozani's Carnival into a 3Z event, while enhancing public consultation platforms and establishing a network for sustainable event management. Additionally, the Municipality will manage a significant investment to renovate essential infrastructure, ensuring its long-term integration into the city’s operational plans.

Transfer partners

Transfer Partners are urban authorities that join the EUI-Innovative Action project to observe and learn. Their primary aim is to enhance the adaptability of the project's solutions to different urban contexts within the EU. These partners play a crucial role in facilitating knowledge exchange among EU cities and fostering innovation. They come from different EU member states than the project Main Urban Authority and participate during the project's implementation phase. Each project generally involves three Transfer Partners. The involvement of Transfer Partners is vital for ensuring the project's innovative solutions are effectively adaptable and replicable in various contexts across the EU.
