Turku
Urban Biodiversity Parks - Urban Biodiversity Parks as co-creative platforms for enhancing biodiversity, learning and community involvement in urban ecological regeneration
Location
Set in the developing neighbourhood of Skanssi, in Turku, Finland, the 20-hectare biodiversity park is to include diverse landscapes and habitats. Four smaller biodiversity schemes will also be trialled in other suburban neighbourhoods around Turku.
Urban authorities
The project consortium is led by the City of Turku and contributes directly implementing key local strategies and commitments, such as the city strategy, and Turku’s biodiversity action plan. The City owns the land and is in charge of investment for Skanssi Biodiversity Park – including construction and restoration works – as well as planning and implementing four smaller scale biodiversity pilots and raising awareness. Several city departments are involved.
