Progress in Addressing Housing and Energy Challenges
New design, old room.
DemoHub development
The design phase for the DemoHub, which will transform a former school building in Budapest into 26 near-zero energy affordable housing units, is now complete. The project prioritizes energy efficiency, sustainability, and community participation in the design process.
Service development
The project has made significant progress in defining a service portfolio to support energy-efficient and flexible housing solutions. A framework for an Early Warning System (EWS), designed to identify households at risk of housing instability, has been drafted. While the system is not yet operational, preparatory work, including stakeholder mapping and interviews, is underway.
Community engagement
Engaging the community has been a key priority. Awareness campaigns and events have introduced the benefits of flexible housing models, such as cohabitation, to local stakeholders. The project has begun consultations with social workers and local NGOs to shape future services based on community needs. A community placemaking event at the DemoHub site provided an opportunity to introduce the project to local residents and foster connections among potential future tenants.
