Urban transformation, river reconquest and park creation
The Métropole Européenne de Lille (MEL) is working on a project of urban regeneration of the area surrounding the river Deule. In the past this area was dedicated to industrial activities, but, more recently, the administration descided to enhance a process of transformation to revitalise and revalorise its riverbanks. Besides housing developments, this neighbourhood will provide several services and green infrastructure with the creation of a park along the river. Considering the long-term vision of the project, as well as the long implementation period before completion, the MEL decided to exchange with the City of Turin on how to better design this park and how to engage the local community in the long and short term. The city of Turin underwent similar regeneration processes in the past and can support the MEL in avoiding failures by providing advises based on its past experience.
